TACOMA — Pierce County Parks and Recreation said it has replaced a soccer field and baseball field with synthetic turf at Heritage Recreation Center in South Hill.
The county said in a press release that after researching materials such as rubber and cork it chose turf that includes an infill product called Envirofill, which is made of Microban-infused, acrylic-coated sand granules. Envirofill was determined to be safer, longer-lasting and more cost-effective.
The fields will be evaluated for durability, maintenance and future replacement cost.
The county and Puyallup School District share the fields and got a state grant to replace them.
