Stutes

In Redmond, DOWL hired Adrienne Stutes as a senior biologist. Stutes has over a decade of experience examining the ecology and biology of aquatic environments, including nearshore and estuarine habitats. She has participated in EIS efforts, NEPA and SEPA reviews, and managed permitting for ports, municipalities and development groups. DOWL is a multidisciplined consulting firm with 25 offices.

University of Washington Tacoma

The University of Washington Tacoma named Dr. Howard L. Smith the Gary E. and James A. Milgard Endowed Dean of Milgard School of Business. Smith was dean at the University of New Mexico for its Anderson School of Management and School of Public Administration, and spent six years at Boise State University. Smith also was founding dean of Pacific University College of Business in Cottage Grove, Oregon.

Seattle University

Seattle Youth Traffic Court won the 2016 Spirit of Community Project Award by Seattle University's Center for Community Engagement. The program is a partnership of Seattle Municipal Court, Seattle University Law School, Garfield High School and Seattle Police Department that lets eligible teen drivers opt to have their case heard by a court of their peers. Youth participate as judges, jurors, defense attorneys and prosecutors in an actual courtroom. Teen drivers must help restore the harm their violation caused through community service, apology letters, research and participating in future Youth Traffic Court cases.

At its Seattle headquarters, Hart Crowser named Kelly Eng human resources manager and hired Theresa Stubbs as a human resources specialist. In Honolulu, it hired Lisa Barnes as an administrative assistant. Eng has been with the firm 14 years. She has been a trustee for the Employee Stock Ownership Plan and created the ESOP education program. Stubbs holds a bachelor's in society, ethics and human behavior, and previously worked for Microsoft. Barnes was a legal and staffing assistant, and has a bachelor of fine arts in theatre from University of Southern California. Hart Crowser is an engineering, science and consulting firm.

In Seattle, HOK promoted Todd Buchanan to vice president and practice leader, Julia Cooper to senior associate and Levi Rippy to project architect; and hired Michelle Yan as a design professional, David Balas as a senior project architect and AJ Taaca as a senior architecture design professional. Buchanan will continue managing the Seattle office and working on aviation, justice, and science and technology projects, including WSU Tri-Cities Academic Center. Cooper has a background in workplace strategy and strategic planning. Her clients include Stanford Clinical Excellence Center and Change Healthcare. Rippy works on civic, justice and aviation projects. Yan, Balas and Taaca will support projects, including the San Francisco Traffic and Forensics Lab. HOK is a global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm.

Rice Fergus Miller hired Kristen Linn and Rachelle Freegard as architects. Linn works on adaptive re-use and housing projects. Freegard has over 25 years of architectural experience. She will manage community, civic and housing projects. Rice Fergus Miller is a Bremerton-based architecture, interior design and planning firm.

Troy Bishop rejoined ALSC Architects as an architect and senior designer working in the Spokane office. Bishop has done educational and medical facility design. He is working on projects for Potlatch and Lake Pend Oreille school districts. ALSC provides planning and design.

In Tualatin, Ore., AKS Engineering & Forestry hired Taya MacLean as a senior biologist. In the Salem-Keizer office, it hired Janelle Poe as a civil engineering project manager. MacLean has 17 years of natural resources management experience and was with SWCA in Portland. She will do natural resources and FEMA National Floodplain Insurance Program compliance work. Poe has over 20 years of experience with engineering projects, including public works and land development and was with Boatwright Engineering in Salem. AKS provides civil engineering, forestry and surveying services.
