Council considers new housing fee

SEATTLE — A consultant hired by the city of Seattle has recommended a new affordable housing fee that would affect most future commercial real estate projects in town.

The policy suggested by Oakland-based Cornerstone Partnership is called a “linkage fee.” Under this policy, developers would pay a per-square-foot fee for the total size of the project. Funds would go toward building affordable housing.
