ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — The owner of City Lumber Company has purchased the historic Flavel home that has been left vacant for 25 years.
The Daily Astorian reports (http://bit.ly/1Som5Dt ) Greg Newenhof agreed to pay nearly $222,000 in cash for the mansion at 15th Street and Franklin Avenue.
A conservator agreed to sell the home to bring an end to disputes with the city over code violations.
The deteriorating property is a contrast to the well-preserved Flavel House Museum located several blocks away. The museum was the home of legendary Columbia River bar pilot, Capt. George Flavel. The 15th Street home was built for Flavel's son in 1901. In 1986, the home was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Newenhof says he plans to fix up the home and then move in.
