DSA raises new Pike-Pine banners

SEATTLE — Downtown visitors will see a new splash of color next time they visit the Pike-Pike corridor.

More than 60 new banners adorn the street poles along Pike and Pines streets from Pike Place Market to Capitol Hill. The banners say “Downtown Seattle Pike Pine” and display icons that suggest things to do in the neighborhood, such as dining, shopping or going to the theater.

The banners are the latest in a series of investments following a 2013 planning effort led by the Downtown Seattle Association and the landscape architecture firm Gustafson Guthrie Nichol. The plan includes streetscape improvements, public area amenities, light installations, community events and more.

DSA also launched a retail recruitment program to work with local and national retailers and restaurateurs, encouraging them to open downtown. In recent weeks DSA helped two clothing retailers locate spaces: Farinaz, a women's clothing store, opened in Pacific Place, and Do The Extraordinary, a Tacoma-based retailer, opened on Sixth Avenue.
