SLU data center expands capacity

SEATTLE — H5 Data Centers said yesterday it has expanded the capacity of its 293,000-square-foot data center at 1000 Denny Way in South Lake Union.

The site now offers wholesale data center and retail co-location space.

The data center “serves a critical role in the Seattle interconnection ecosystem as networks seek reliable and scalable alternatives to the Westin Building,” said H5 Data Centers CEO Josh Simms in a statement.

“H5 Data Centers' new data center space will help bolster the size and resiliency of the Seattle interconnection landscape.”

A related company called H5 Capital acquired the 1000 Denny Way building for $36 million in 2011. The company has proposed a 41-story apartment tower on the northeast corner of the block at 121 Boren Ave. N.

The eight-story 1000 Denny Way building, which also houses The Seattle Times, would remain.
