ADU legislation takes effect Aug. 8

SEATTLE — Mayor Jenny A. Durkan yesterday signed legislation and an executive order to advance the development of more accessory dwelling units like backyard cottages and in-law apartments in single-family zoned neighborhoods in Seattle.

The legislation loosens regulatory restrictions on ADUs, and the order is aimed at streamlining the ADU permitting process and lowering financial barriers, the mayor’s office said in a press release.
