SEATTLE (AP) — Firefighters were battling a blaze yesterday that officials say has destroyed several businesses in a retail district in Seattle's Ballard neighborhood.
The Seattle Fire Department said on Twitter that the fire in the 2300 block of Northwest Market Street was reported just after noon Monday.
Firefighters say businesses in the area were evacuated, and holes were cut in the roof to release toxic gases and smoke. La Isla restaurant, Supercuts, Kitchen N Things and a jeweler are among the businesses in the building. All the businesses were expected to be a total loss, according to fire officials.
Officials say one firefighter was taken with minor injuries to a hospital.
