90 senior units eyed for Central District

SEATTLE — Back in 2010, the nonprofit Ethiopian Community in Seattle paid $1.6 million for an old church property at 8323 Rainier Ave. S. The corner, at South Rose Street, totals nearly 1 acre. It's mostly parking. On the south end is a 9,400-square-foot community center constructed in 1953.

Now the group is proposing to develop the north parking lot with a five-story affordable senior housing building. The plan, by Environmental Works Community Design Center, hasn't yet entered design review. It includes additional community space in the new building. The old building would also be renovated.
