Tacoma acts to preserve additional historic structures

Old City Hall is on city, state and national historic registers. The city had selected McMenamins to redevelop the building, but that deal fell through. Now Surge Tacoma plans a mixed-use redevelopment of it.

An ordinance recently approved by the Tacoma City Council will help preserve historically significant buildings or culturally significant sites regardless of their historic designation status, said Reuben McKnight, Tacoma's historic preservation officer.
