Central District to get new community homeless shelter

By EMMA HINCHLIFFE
A/E Editor

The Community Home at Keiro, a new 24/7 shelter, is coming to the Central District. The shelter will be located at 1601 E. Yesler Way, the former site of the Keiro Rehabilitation and Care Center, a nursing home that largely served the Japanese-American community.

The 125-bed shelter is the result of a partnership between the City of Seattle and the Africatown Community Land Trust. This is the first shelter to be run by Africatown. It will serve single adult males, with 24-hour security, case management, and access to employment and social and recreational activities on site.
