51 Ballard apartment units head to fall design review

In this massing study, looking southwest, 15th is in the foreground.

About a year after the $2.7 million land sale, an apartment project at 6015 15th Ave. N.W. will have its first design review on Sept. 14. That will likely be a virtual presentation from architect Clark Barnes, which is designing the five-story, 51-unit building.

The corner, at Northwest 61st street, is now owned by an LLC associated with Pryde Development. The project will replace the Seattle Mattress building, which also has a few second-floor apartments.

No commercial space is included in the new plan. There might or might not be four parking stalls — presumably for loading — on the alley to the south. If omitted, that could up the number of apartments to 55. Tenants would also have a bike room.

Units would range from SEDUs, small efficiency dwelling units, to one-bedrooms. Of the latter, five could be live/work units facing 15th. A roof deck is also indicated.

Pryde has experience in the area, having previously developed plans for two other apartment projects at 15th and Northwest 15th Street. Those were sold to others with master use permits in place.
