Description
A new 435-stall parking garage with heliport next to the existing View Park I Garage at Harborview Medical Center. The new structure, which includes four flat plate, post-tensioned concrete slabs, will connect to the existing garage by a series of ramps. The vertical circulation ramps in the existing garage were used to provide all floor-to-floor movement in both structures.

The circulation system within the existing garage was augmented by the addition of an exterior ramp at the north end of the existing garage. By eliminating the need for vertical circulation within the new garage, the design-build team was able to maximize the total number of parking stalls.

On the main visitor parking level, the new structure features a higher ceiling height — 9 feet, 6 inches versus 6 feet, 6 inches — than the existing garage. The higher ceiling meets current state accessiblity code requirements for van access. It also includes two elevators that meet handicap access requirements and a staging area for ambulances to transport patients from the helipad to Harborview Trauma Center or other area hospitals.

The 230-foot-long helipad provides three separate landing pads for emergency airlift flights. A small pedestrian view plaza will built on the helipad level.

The temporary helipad on View Park I, which was constructed under this contract to provide uninterrupted airlift capabilities, will be dismantled and the site will be restored to its original condition.
