Description
Tahoma School District’s Summit School, scheduled to open in the fall of 2001, provides classroom space for up to 800 students at the eighth and ninth grade levels. The school is designed for future expansion with an enrollment of 1,250 students. The design allows the district the option to convert the building into either a second high school or a ninth-tenth grade configuration. The 129,000 square foot structure is a two-story steel frame and concrete building. The core facilities include administrative offices, commons and kitchen, gymnasium and lockers, library, vo-tech, art, and music facilities. Additionally, the school is equipped with state of the art data and communications systems. Reflecting the character of national park structures in nearby Mount Rainier National Park, design elements feature the use of on-site stone at the main entryways. Forty acres on the site are designated for sports fields, parking, bus circulation, and future expansion space.
