Description
The Riverside Bridge project consists of replacing the existing bridge that spans the Skagit River, connecting the city of Mount Vernon to the city of Burlington. The new bridge will be a four-lane, 850-foot-long concrete girder bridge. It replaces the existing two-lane steel trestle bridge built in 1938.

The replacement structure has six piers, four of which are in the Skagit River. The piers are founded on 20 oscillated shafts, each 9 feet, 10 inches. Ranging from 84 to 95 feet in length each, 13 of these shafts are oscillated in the river. A 7-foot-diameter round column tops each shaft. Each of the piers in the river has a standard pier cap.

There are up to 10 girder lines that are almost 8 feet deep, and up to 186 feet long per span. The girders will be cast off-site. Three girder sections will be spliced and post-tensioned on-site, before erection. Next, these spliced "triples" will be erected and endure another phase of post-tensioning in the air.

On top of the girders, there will be a 27,500-square-foot conventional bridge deck. Additional work includes demolition of the existing bridge, as well as improvements to the at-grade approaches and the new structure.
