#10. Kamiakin High School modernization | |
Project address: |
After 10 years of district building projects and remodels, Kamiakin’s turn came around when voters passed a bond for the Kamiakin High School modernization project on the third attempt. Situated on 30 acres, Kamiakin constraints included a lack of adequate classroom space, roof leaks and outdated electrical systems. The 192,841-square-foot, five-building complex was completed in 1970 and hasn’t been updated since an expansion in 1981. The modernization project will upgrade the existing school to make it compliant with current building, life safety, plumbing, electrical, energy and accessibility codes. The remodel also includes seismic work and security modifications. Other necessary components of the update involve hazardous materials abatement and a remodel to improve the use of classroom space. Also, an existing lecture hall will be developed into an auditorium for 600 people. In addition to updates for the current buildings, the project will add 36,600 square feet of space. The expansion includes a new gym and a two-story building with 15 classrooms, which will eliminate 10 modular units.
Classes at the high school are in session during construction.
