It differs from traditional gym facilities that focus strictly on athletics, because it is primarily a recreation center with an emphasis on fitness and health for all students.

The facility will include a three-court gym, a multipurpose activity court for indoor soccer and hockey, an indoor elevated track with four lanes, and rooms for aerobics, dance, martial arts and weights.

Special features include a climbing wall, fitness and leisure pool, juice bar, social lounge and a wellness center.

BJSS Duarte Bryant and Opsis Architecture designed the project in a collaborative process that involved the school and the community.

The team narrowed down the project design through charette workshops, consultations with student groups, and site visits to similar facilities in California, Oregon and Washington.
