Description

The new Bonney Lake High School design reflects the philosophy that large high schools are most effective when organized into smaller learning communities.

The two-level school is organized into several smaller academies or “houses.” Each house will be staffed by a team of teachers, an administrator and a counselor.

The 66,000-square-foot upper level will contain three wings for the ninth and 10th graders, and will focus on core subjects.

The 173,100-square-foot main floor will be divided into four wings, with rooms for art, music, physical education and various advanced classes. It will house the 11th and 12th graders, including accelerated underclassmen.

Every floor will have two theater-style lecture halls, with the capability for multi-media presentations for both student demonstrations and staff development. Each wing of the school will have a project/flex area for interdisciplinary student projects and other uses.

In addition to this innovative design, the school is beginning to experiment with programming that involves the local business community, allowing students to gain work experience while still in high school.

The school will partner with a bank branch in the main building, where bank employees will work side-by-side with students. A culinary arts program will be developed in conjunction with an on-site restaurant and catering service.

And in the applied technology wing, students will work with business partners on various projects and learning opportunities.
