Description The Fort Lewis Army Base is continuing to add and improve housing for soldiers with the FY03 Whole Barracks Renewal project. The latest housing addition is comprised of six, three-story barracks and two community buildings, which will accommodate about 500 soldiers. The barracks will contain living/sleeping rooms and semi-private baths. This construction phase also includes medium company operations facilities of about 3,092 square meters; an approximately 1,452-square-meter battalion headquarters with a classroom; and lawn mower storage facilities of about 50 square meters. Exterior walls of the buildings will consist of steel stud/masonry veneer construction. The frames will be structural steel. Interior partitions will be constructed of steel stud and gypsum board construction. Special construction items include vaults for both firearms and documents. The barracks and community buildings will incorporate central ventilation and exhaust systems, with air-to-air exchange that provides continual room ventilation. Electrical components for the new building involve fire alarm systems, security and information systems. Preparation for the new construction involved demolition of various existing site improvements. The work also required construction of all associated utilities and site work.
Landscaped grounds will include a troop training area. Additional parking and roadways are also included.
