Commuters will take elevators at Beacon Hill Station to reach the light-rail tunnel platform below.

The line will provide a high-capacity commuter connection from downtown Seattle to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. By 2020, a projected 3,000 commuters will use the Beacon Hill station.

The mile-long, light-rail tunnel alignment will consist of two parallel tunnels through Beacon Hill that will be constructed with a tunnel boring machine. The contract includes sections of elevated track at each end of the tunnel. The elevated Mount Baker Station will be located at the east end of the tunnel.

The 150-foot-deep subway station will be accessed by high-speed elevators.

From the surface, a 181-foot-deep, 46-foot-diameter main shaft will be constructed to reach the tunnel platform. This shaft will house four high-speed elevators, emergency staircases, ventilation shafts, and mechanical and electrical equipment. The shaft will be constructed from the top down, using sequential excavation mining techniques.

A 41-foot-wide concourse will connect the eastbound and westbound tunnel platforms. The station will have artwork and architectural finishes.

The west portal of the tunnel will be under Interstate 5, east of Airport Way. Beacon Hill Station will be bounded by Beacon Avenue South, South Lander Street, 17th Avenue South and South McClellan Street.

The east tunnel portal will be east of 25th Avenue South and south of South McClellan Street. McClellan Station will be near the junction of Rainier Avenue South, Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and Winthrop Street.
