Description

The project is a new baggage handling and screening system for Concourse A at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. It will be a common-use sorting and screening system with six in-line explosive detection machines.

Construction will include installation and modifications of the C60, C61 and C96 outbound baggage sortation and in-line security screening systems. Included will be the installation of interim outbound systems to support construction phasing.

A screening room at the bridge level will be built, as well as a bridge-level explosion detection system platform.

Fire protection systems under baggage conveyors will be installed as well as makeup devices and catwalks.

There will be myriad relocations and demolition in the airport. The existing roughed-in circuitry for the baggage handling system will be relocated and adjusted. Multiple portions of existing walls will be demolished and architectural systems for utilities will be relocated.

The main terminal slab will be demolished and new grade beams will be installed. Existing seismic braces will be demolished and replacements erected in the south bag well.

Micropiles and pile caps will be installed. That work includes construction of concrete piers around existing columns, installation of upper and lower gusset plates at the top and bottom of existing columns, and erection of steel pipe bracing between the gusset plates.

Finally, fiber-optic cabling, copper voice cabling and copper data cabling will be installed.
