Inside, strips of tilt-up concrete complement natural wood finishes.

The 25,000-square-foot Community Support Facility at Jackson Park was built under the design/build process that paired WPC with Architects BCRA-Tsang, AHBL and BCE Engineers.

The Community Support Facility is actually a chapel and school combined in one — with a large meeting area/chapel at one end and classrooms, offices and a small library at the other.

Inside the community facility, WPC was able to create an interesting complement to the exposed wood structure roof by using concrete tilt-up panels and pre-cast columns, which were selected with the help of BCRA-Tsang.

Part of the Navy’s plan for the community facility was to tie it into an existing child development center that sat at the top of a hill above the building site. To make that work, 16,000 cubic yards of dirt were moved to bring the new building pad up to the child center’s elevation. A circular courtyard was added to further tie the buildings.

Over 17,000 labor-hours were spent on the project with no accidents.
