The Associated General Contractors of Washington honored its members’ outstanding projects and exemplary safety skills at a Friday banquet in Bellevue.

As part of its annual Safety & Construction Excellence Awards, the association gave out 15 trophies, including seven for safety, six for construction, one for community involvement and one for environmental excellence. In addition, Grand Awards were given for construction and safety.
The Grand Award for Construction went to DPR Construction for the Good Samaritan Hospital West Wing Addition project in Puyallup. The Grand Award for Safety was taken home by D.W. Close Co.
This year’s judges for the construction awards were: Steven Goldblatt of the Department of Construction Management at the University of Washington; Mark Pierepiekarz of ABS Consulting and director of the Structural Engineers Association of Washington Seattle Chapter; Don Bocek of Bocek Properties and past president of the AGC of Washington; and Benjamin Minnick, Journal construction editor.
The judges for safety included: Joe Miller, loss control consultant for the AGC Oregon-Columbia Chapter; Darrell Tsujii of the Environmental Health and Safety Department at the University of Washington; Melvin James from the state Department of Labor & Industries; and Mike Schultz of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.
The event was sponsored by the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce and USI Northwest.
