Seattle-Tacoma International Airport South Terminal Expansion Demolition and Abatement
Location: Sea-Tac Airport
Owner/Developer: Port of Seattle
Demolition contractor: Nuprecon
Design professional: NBBJ
Engineers: Wood Harbinger, KPFF, Argus Pacific, Floyd Snider and Skilling, Ward, Magnusson, Barkshire

Nuprecon removed buildings while airport operations went on at Sea-Tac.

This $16.4 million demolition and abatement project was the first step in Sea-Tac Airport’s South Terminal Expansion project.

The hazardous materials abatement work was the largest single abatement project in Pacific Northwest history, according to Nuprecon. Abatement and demolition was performed in a continuously-occupied airport without affecting any ongoing airport operations. All contracted deliverable milestones were delivered in advance with no liquidated damages.

To assist the client in cost containment, Nuprecon provided creative design-build solutions, alternative approaches, and used a value engineering cost approach for additional and changed conditions.

After the Nisqually earthquake struck, Nuprecon mobilized abatement and demolition personnel, who performed 40 hours of continuous work to keep Sea-Tac Airport operational.
