Emerick Construction Co. invites jobsite employees to safety meetings to gather new ideas it can put to wider use.

Gaining feedback from workers is a key to Emerick Construction Co.’s safety program. Every quarter Emerick’s safety committee meeting is held at a different jobsite. The company invites its employees on that jobsite to the meeting so it can gain insight and ideas from the field that could be put to wider use.

An example of Emerick management’s commitment to safety involved the company’s work at a Clark County C-Tran transit center. A new employee had a great idea for fall-protection attachments that would work well for a specific task. However, the right tools were not at hand. Emerick’s superintendent made sure the task would wait until it could be implemented in the safest manner possible. It all worked out well, and everyone was happy to be a part of the solution.

Last year, Emerick Construction, a member of the AGC Safety Team, had zero lost-work days with more than 100,000 employee-hours worked.
