Aecon Buildings gives subcontractors a pre-construction orientation on its safety program and training on site-specific plans.

Aecon Buildings earned a special commendation from the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries for going nearly three years without an L&I claim and seven years without a time-loss accident.

Such a long streak is no accident: It is a direct result of Aecon’s commitment to and investment in safety. AGC Safety Team member Aecon sets high expectations for safety, both for itself and for those with whom it works.

Aecon maintains a strict process for selecting subcontractors that includes a review of safety records and administrative procedures, job-site performance and disciplinary measures. To ensure that subcontractors are fully aware of Aecon’s policies and emphasis on safety, subcontractors receive a pre-construction orientation on Aecon’s safety program and training on site-specific plans.

Aecon recognizes employees for the success of its safety program in a variety of ways, including job-site safety celebrations. For every 100 days without an incident, Aecon hosts a catered lunch on the job site to say thank you and reward teams for safe work environments. The company has given a lot of free lunches!
