Superintendent of the year

Jeff Robison joined John Korsmo Construction in 2006 as superintendent for the award-winning Paradise Visitors Center project on Mount Rainier.

From the outset, Robison showed leadership and ingenuity in dealing with challenges rarely faced by construction superintendents. Simply getting the crew to the job site during harsh winters required significant coordination, with Robison leading a daily caravan up the mountain.

With constant snow and ice in the winter and 10,000 daily visitors during much of the rest of the year, all activities and deliveries had to be carefully scheduled, and Robison did so effectively and efficiently.

Robison maintained a safe and productive workplace, and kept himself on the leading edge of safety management through not only typical training such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s 30-hour construction-safety training course, but also cold weather and avalanche hazard training. Plus, Robison conducted tactical winter driving courses for essential personnel and he devised emergency avalanche plans so personnel could be prepared to deal with Mother Nature.

Robison was instrumental in completing this difficult project with only one minor injury from a slip in the parking lot. He is currently Korsmo’s general superintendent, holding those that he supervises to his own high standards for safety.
