Work on the Stafford Creek Correction Center, located 7 miles west of Aberdeen on Highway 105, began at the end of 1998 and finished in 1999 - a time when record rainfall hit the Grays Harbor County area, increasing construction challenges. The concrete structure features tilt panels for exterior walls, giving it the strength and durability to be of service for years to come. Tunnel forms created the individual cells, with the stringent requirement of meeting 5,000 psi in seven days. Forms were set up one day and poured late in the afternoon.
