The project is a new main entryway and plaza for a renovated five-building business park. Five different types of color and exposed aggregate concrete were used to define the project’s major parts. The heart of the project is a large radial concrete sundial with 20-foot stainless steel gnomon. The gnomon base has an integral non-carbon black color with stainless steel discs inlaid upon radial score lines to tell the time of day. Extending out from the base into a landscaped area are radial time lines with 6-inch-wide concrete sections cast flush with the grade. At the outer periphery of the sundial are 2-by-7-foot raised concrete benches which are connected by a 2-foot-wide exposed aggregate walking path. The park’s five buildings each have two primary entrances. Entry paths are integral colored concrete with a 4-by-4-foot score pattern that leads to new steel entry trellises. The trellises have concrete bases with seating and accent lighting. |
