Naturalistic woodland swimming pool

Location: Carnation

Owner/developer: Anonymous

Project team: Natural Creations, general and concrete contractor, architect; Consultant West, structural engineer; Cadman, ready-mix supplier

This swimming pool project required more than 200 cubic yards of two specially designed types of shotcrete: One mix for structural applications and the other to create a more natural outdoor landscape and rock texture.

The pool is 25 feet wide and 45 feet long, with a kid beach at the shallow end. A monolithic rock with his-and-her showers can be found on another end of the pool. Adjacent to the rock showers is a natural gas fireplace for social gatherings.

The project’s standout element is a rock mountain that towers 20 feet over the pool. The mountain has a 35-foot-long water slide that flows into the pool’s deep end. The mountain has a cave with a clothes-changing area and storage for water toys and pool supplies.

The pool is plastered in a pebble finish to resemble a lagoon floor. Perimeter decking is made of stained concrete with a canyon floor granite texture.

A synchronized lighting system was installed throughout the pool landscape and rock elements. It uses fiber optics to create seven different light patterns, including arching fountains that shoot colored streams of water into the pool.
