Wollochet Bay

Location: Wollochet Bay, Pierce County

Owner/developer: Wollochet Bay Properties

Project team: Lystad Concrete Construction, general and concrete contractor; Nature by Design, architect; Baseline Engineering, structural engineer; Miles Sand & Gravel Co., ready-mix supplier

A recently built Wollochet Bay carriage house required more than 19,000 square feet of precast and natural stone masonry. More than 30,000 square feet of stamped concrete was used for the exterior pavement.

A 4,000-square-foot interior showroom floor uses polished concrete for its durability and low maintenance.

The exterior retaining wall at the back of the carriage house reaches up to 15 feet high. Natural stone shipped from Texas was applied to all the exposed walls and was capped with a precast limestone that fit the wall precisely. Front entry walls were poured that were also covered with precast limestone.

Elevations were critical to ensure that more than 13,000 square feet of surface water flowed to a single drain. The dog house has a stone exterior and a monolithic concrete foundation. Retaining walls around it were stuccoed to match the house.

The pump house and gate house were both poured monolithic slab on grade. Stone was installed for the pump house, and precast limestone for the guard house.
