By diversifying and seeking a mix of government and private work, Saybr has managed to increase revenues through hard economic times.

“Our Fortune 500 type customers, who had environmental budgets in the past, have cut those budgets,” said Saybr President and CEO Karen Say.

Helping revenues has been Saybr’s work for the federal government — namely, the Department of Defense.

“We’ve done work in support of the war in Iraq,” said Say. “A lot of the work is for barracks and projects for the troops — such as aesthetics improvements for barracks.”

Also helping grow revenues has been Saybr’s work for retail customers, such as Fred Meyer and Safeway. For those companies, Saybr has done fuel systems, such as Safeway’s gas stations and general construction.

The company’s largest project, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, is a $1.2 million project involving security upgrades. Keeping that balance has been key for the firm. “We do as much work for the federal government as for local commercial industrial customers,” she said.
