Broweleit Peterson Hammer practices primarily in religious and educational markets. Currently there are about 20 church projects in the office. The firm has seen a slowdown in the public sector, with an increase in church-related private schools, however, the staff of 20 is down just one since last year.

"Frustrations in producing projects on schedule continue to be impacted by the jurisdictions in which we work," said partner David Peterson. Several of those "continue to experience growth pains with new staff and new and untested planning codes."

The firm designed a renovation of Mercer Island Presbyterian Church that included enlarging the existing sanctuary, chapel and classrooms and adding a new multi-purpose facility, youth area, administration suite, music room and narthex. Scheduled for completion in 2003 is the new Covenant Presbyterian Church in Issaquah.
