Talley & Kolb

“Our present goals are to collaborate with other firms and to diversify by taking on more park and commercial design projects,” said Brooks Kolb of Talley & Kolb. “One of our principal challenges is to expand our residential customer base at a time of stock market downturns.”

Talley & Kolb's focus is high-end residential garden design, in addition to university campus planning and design, neighborhood open space planning, and park design. One current project is a three-acre residential landscape in Bellevue on a steeply sloping semi-rural hillside featuring mature woodland and rows of tall Lombardy Poplars. The landscape will incorporate a serpentine driveway, a large autocourt with a central green space, an outdoor pool, spa, tennis court and a large, sweeping lawn for informal sports.

“We are a small, two-person firm and our size has remained stable for several years. While we have not had any mergers, we are exploring ‘strategic alliances’ with other small landscape architectural and horticultural design firms,” he said.

Gross fees for 2000 were around $110,000 and the firm expects to match that in 2001.
