“We have re-focused our project market in the last year or two with a greater emphasis on projects within the Puget Sound region and throughout the Pacific Coast states,” said Mark Weisman, principal of Weisman Design Group.

Primary practice areas are housing and retirement communities, schools, office and health care buildings and urban mixed-use projects. The firm currently has 18 landscape architects and support staff, and employment has remained stable for the last two years. Gross fees for last year and this one were each about $2 million.

“All Weisman Design Group markets have been extremely active,” said Weisman. “Our work in the first two years of the new century makes last century pale by comparison.”

The firm is currently working on Trilogy, a 1,500-acre active retirement community in the design stages. At Redmond Ridge nearby, Weisman is providing landscape design for offices, housing and community open space areas. The group just began work on a Bellevue mixed-use, mid-rise project with housing and office towers perched over a multi-level retail plaza.

In health care, construction is starting on extensive development for Northwest and Overlake hospitals, and work as started for St. Joseph’s Hospital in Federal Way. The firm is working on five school projects for local districts, several office projects and mixed-use buildings. There is ongoing work for Polygon Northwest and for Northward and Sundquist Homes.

“Landscape architectural practice in Seattle is energizing,” said Weisman.
