Franciscan Health System’s $160 million St. Anthony Hospital, which opened last year in Gig Harbor, is the city’s first full-service hospital. It’s one of several recently built projects in Gig Harbor to make extensive use of masonry.

The Community Recognition Award is given to communities that use masonry extensively in building construction.

This year, several projects from Gig Harbor were submitted. They include the St. Anthony Hospital, the Gig Harbor branch of the Harborstone Credit Union and the Costco at Harbor Hill, which received the merit award for commercial retail projects.

The projects continue a long trend of masonry construction in Gig Harbor, said the Masonry Institute of Washington.
