OLYMPIA — Gov. Bob Ferguson is creating a new workgroup aimed at evaluating the impacts of data centers on the state's economy, tax revenue, energy use and the environment.
In a news release yesterday, the governor's office said that data centers are infrastructure that support the state's digital economy, providing essential services that drive innovation and economic growth. Data centers also consumer a lot of electricity, which the news release says can strain the local power grid and require more energy generation, storage and transmission.
