The design-build team of DLR Group and Bayley Construction was the highest scoring finalist in the city of Everett's progressive design-build procurement for a new multi-purpose stadium in the city's downtown.

DLR Group is a global architecture firm with a local office in Seattle. General contractor Bayley Construction is headquartered on Mercer Island and also has offices in Lake Forest, California and Scottsdale, Arizona.

A limited early work agreement, at $200,000, is to be awarded to Bayley Construction for preliminary work on the project, including site surveying, pending approval by the Everett City Council on Feb. 12. The final contract award is still to be negotiated and would need to be approved by the city council several months from now, possibly as soon as May.

Bayley Construction’s previous design-build projects include the University of Washington Husky Ballpark.

As previously reported by the DJC, the stadium will be the new home for Everett's Minor League Baseball team, the AquaSox, as well as a new venue for concerts and community events. It could have seating for up to 5,000 people.

The stadium is slated to rise at a roughly 12.5-acre site on the eastern edge of the city's downtown core, directly adjacent and east of the Angel of the Winds Arena and approximately a half mile west of Interstate 5. A mix of commercial businesses are currently located at the site on 28 privately owned parcels.

DLR Group has designed several sports stadiums, including the Alex Box Stadium at Louisiana State University.

The DJC previously reported that the new stadium is expected to cost around $118 million. That total presumably includes land acquisition costs. DJC records indicate that the design/build contract is expected to be around $50 million.

The new stadium will bring the Everett AquaSox into compliance with Major League Baseball new facility standards. This is necessary to keep the team in the city. Everett had also considered a renovation/rebuilding of the AquaSox's current ballpark, Funko Field, but ultimately decided to press ahead with a brand-new downtown stadium at the end of last year.

A tentative timeline for the project has property acquisition, site preparation and permitting starting this year. Construction would follow in 2026. The AquaSox are hoping to play their first game at the new stadium in April 2027.
