Reconfigured as a grand boulevard, Mercer Street will include generous sidewalks, large trees and travel lanes separated by a landscaped median.

The grand boulevard is making a comeback in the United States, with redesigned streets such as Octavia Boulevard in San Francisco embracing the traditional aspects of this type of design. Seattle now has the opportunity to introduce elements of the grand boulevard to one of its key thoroughfares as part of a proposed makeover of the Mercer Corridor.
