Brightwater Center

Brightwater Center has wetland areas that treat runoff from pavement and buildings.

Location: Woodinville
Architect: Mithun
Agency/owner and overall project management: King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, Wastewater Treatment Division

As the public face of the Brightwater Treatment Facility, Brightwater Center is a place that brings people together to learn about water, the treatment of wastewater, energy and sustainability, and how these issues flow through every community.

Designed to meet LEED platinum standards, the center educates through programs, exhibits and building design. From the reclaimed wood beams around the center’s walkways to public art depicting the cycle of water as we borrow it and return it to nature — the center shows how we can connect built and natural environments for mutual benefit.
