Tobin Center is a major renovation and expansion of the historic Municipal Auditorium in downtown San Antonio.

Location: San Antonio
Prime/design architect: LMN
Agency/owner: Bexar County Performing Arts Foundation

The project is a major renovation and expansion of the historic Municipal Auditorium in downtown San Antonio.

The design retains the primary facades, entrance and public circulation spaces while replacing the obsolete auditorium with a multipurpose performance hall and studio theater. The geometry is reoriented to better engage the River Walk to the north, and the new structures are unified inside a dramatic metallic veil.

Tobin Center is designed to be a “transformable facility,” where interior and exterior lighting, acoustics and floor systems can be adjusted to meet the mood and technical requirements of every event.
