The RCMP Timberlea building was designed to capture natural light through rows of windows, requiring a high level of wall finishes.

Location: Wood Buffalo, Alberta, Canada

Project team: Provincial Lathing (2001), wall and ceiling contractor; ACI Architecture, architect; Shoemaker Drywall Supplies, supplier; CertainTeed Gypsum Canada and Steelform Building Products, manufacturers

The RCMP Timberlea is a 4,000-square-meter facility in the community of Wood Buffalo for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s local safety codes division and engineering, planning and building development facilities. The state-of-the-art building took more than a year to construct and equip.

Judge’s comment: “Many of the interior wall and ceiling gypsum wallboard surfaces receive severe natural and artificial lighting and are painted with dark colors, requiring a high degree of finishing. This was a challenging task that was well done.”
