Aecon Buildings

Aecon Buildings has a company goal to prove its commitment to safety by reaching an experience modification rating of .40 or below.

In 2003, Aecon had an EMR of .51, which is 22 percent below the competition’s average. Also, the company’s recordable injury rate was 6.38, which is 52 percent lower than the state average.

Aecon continually monitors its subcontractors through all phases of construction and creates safety awareness through periodic memoranda covering company policies, WISHA code, accident reports and new products.

All employees, including the president, are required to attend the company-wide safety meeting, which sends a message that safety is a priority.

Aecon requires daily safety inspections by site superintendents and weekly site inspections by project managers and project engineers. These inspections have been successful in improving hazard recognition and getting the entire project team to work together toward a safe jobsite.
