Formerly called the Safety and Construction Excellence Awards, this year the program was renamed the Build Washington Awards.

The Grand Award winner in construction went to Natt McDougall Co. for the Swift Hydro No. 2 Surge Arresting Structure. The Grand Award for safety went to Foushee & Associates. Joe Hoskovich was named Project Manager of the Year and Louie Jmaiff was named Superintendent of the Year. Both work for Aecon Buildings.

“It is always a special night when we come together to recognize the outstanding efforts of our AGC contractors,” said 2007 AGC President David D’Hondt of Absher Construction. “These contractors are certainly representative of AGC’s core values of skill, integrity, responsibility and community.”

This year, the awards included a new category for green buildings and separated public and private projects. Winners represent a wide range of AGC members, from small to large companies, union and non-union, general contractors and subcontractors.

Construction judges included Nancy Bennett-Evans of MulvanneyG2, Benjamin Minnick of Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce, John Schaufelberger of the University of Washington, Ted Aadland of Aadland Evans, and Ron Howard, retired WSDOT engineer. Safety judges were Dale Cavanaugh of OSHA Region 10, Anne Soiza of the state Department of Labor and Industries, and Mitch Leary and Roby Robinson of Central Washington University.
