This project rehabilitated the primary runway at King County International Airport, also known as Boeing Field. An intense 20-day construction window was the major challenge. It was necessary because of high operational losses incurred during the runway’s shutdown. In order to meet the rigorous runway pavement requirements, Icon used twin material transfer vehicles, a global positioning system and a PaveSet computer screen control system. Of the 26,600 self-performed worker hours, 15.5 percent were posted by minority employees and 15.47 percent by female workers. The project had zero lost-time accidents in more than 33,000 worker hours. |
