The Project Manager of the Year is Joe Hoskovich of Aecon Buildings for his work on the Silver Reef Hotel Casino & Spa project in Ferndale, Whatcom County.

The project presented an extraordinarily high water table and proactive measures had to be taken to ensure the hotel addition would not damage the existing casino. The foundation of the hotel required 1,500 cubic yards of concrete to be poured and Hoskovich orchestrated a parade of concrete trucks at 2 a.m. to avoid rush-hour traffic and make sure other businesses requiring concrete were not impacted. He also determined the preload fill brought in could be reused, eliminating a costly disposal fee.Ferndale, Whatcom County.

Hoskovich’s attention to the numbers and his ingenuity helped make this project a financial success. The project was completed on a site with ongoing gaming operations with no injuries or loss-time accidents.
