The Swedish Educational Conference Center was built inside the 1910 James Building.

Lydig built part of the Swedish Educational Conference Center into the historic 1910 James Building.

Careful coordination and preplanning was necessary to meet the owner’s strict building policies. Preplanning was critical due to the sensitive nature of the research work of tenant Lab Corp. and the fully operational biotechnology labs located directly above the project area.

Setting up, monitoring and running proper infection control practices were critical to the safety of employees and patients.

A 40-ton, 8-foot-wide, 35-foot-long HVAC unit was installed onto the sixth floor penthouse to service the conference center.

Mechanical ducting routed through the main shaft to the main floor was too big and had to be re-engineered into two ducts to fit into the shaft and then rejoined in the middle. This configuration eliminated any adverse effects on the hospital operations.
