Working on industrial sites brings many challenging safety hazards and Haskell’s focus is to provide comprehensive site specific training. Haskell starts with a basic orientation that covers 29 safety topics, then additional orientation topics and training are added as needed for jobsite hazards. All orientation training is backed up with a short quiz to ensure employees understand the material. The company’s safety training is designed to be user friendly for either a small project with a handful of employees or a major turnaround with hundreds of employees and several safety supervisors. Haskell uses a behavior-based safety program that was developed by BP Refinery called What’s Your Exposure (WYE). The program is designed to raise safety awareness levels so that individuals take safety with them at all times — while working, driving, at home, or play — and share it with family and friends. Individuals use “self talk” to question their position or anticipated move and choose to do it another way. Employees learn that listening to themselves is the first line of defense. |
