The project consisted of the full reconstruction of three intersections in the heart of Kennewick that had experienced shoving and rutting from the 26,800 vehicles that travel them each day.

Construction was performed on a fast-track schedule to address concerns from the city of Kennewick. The state Department of Transportation held meetings with the city and the contractor to develop a schedule that limited construction time to just a few days per intersection.

The plan included closing the intersections between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Thursdays through Mondays. The result was 4,800 cubic yards of concrete were placed from Sept. 10-Oct. 2 last year.
