SR-14/Second Street couplet upgrade

Location: Stevenson

Owner/developer: City of Stevenson

Project team: Tapani Underground, general contractor; Acme Concrete Paving, concrete contractor; Wallis Engineering, structural engineer; Hood River Sand & Gravel, ready-mix supplier

A team of residents, planning commission staff and engineering personnel designed improvements to state Route 14 through the city of Stevenson.

Concrete paving was selected, partly due to the success of a concrete sidewalk the city “experimented” with about 10 years ago near Skamania Lodge.

The design team decided to use colored and engraved concrete pavement along with five colored and engraved concrete crosswalks for the intersection of Route 14 and Second Street.

The project reportedly spurred over $1 million of business improvements along the corridor.
